Introduction

When I ask friends why they got into or switched to tech, I often hear the same reasons: landing high-paying jobs, working remotely, or mastering cutting-edge skills. My story, however, is a bit different. My tech journey wasn’t driven by the usual motivations. It began with a simple goal—to get better at trading derivatives and cryptocurrencies.

Albert Einstein once said, 'If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got.' Those words resonated deeply with me at a time when I was obsessed with improving my trading in the financial markets. I realized that to achieve superior results, I needed to break free from the norm and try something entirely different.

That's when I turned to my trading records. I had been keeping logs of my trades, so I decided to take a close look at them, hoping to uncover patterns or figure out what I might have been missing. This crude and random exercise proved surprisingly insightful. I began to gain valuable insights into my trading behavior, and it sparked a burning desire to understand how to evaluate the data properly. Even though I knew I wasn’t doing it well, I could already sense I was on the right path to better understanding my trades.

Driven by this realization, I decided to develop a non-emotional skill—something different from the emotional nature of trading—that would equip me with the tools to analyze not only my trading data but any other data I might encounter in the future. This marked the beginning of my journey as a data analyst.

The Journey

After weeks of searching online, I started with a free Excel course on YouTube. Soon after, I discovered a “Business Intelligence” course (also free by the way) where I was introduced to Statistics (using Microsoft Excel), SQL, and Python for the first time. The course was rich in content, but I quickly realized that practical application was lacking. I knew something crucial was missing—working on real projects.

Recognizing the need for more structured, hands-on learning, I spoke to a friend about finding a comprehensive data analysis program, even if it meant enrolling in a paid course. That’s when he recommended the Resagratia Data Analytics course. It was January of this year, and after some consideration, I signed up for the February cohort and began the program as scheduled.

Experience & Recommendation

My experience learning data analytics with Resagratia was fun, memorable, and exciting. I would highly recommend it to anyone new to data analysis. The program is expertly curated for beginners in data analytics or even those looking to explore data science. One of its strengths is that it’s project-based, so you get plenty of tangible experience working with various datasets. Another great feature is the self-paced component, allowing you to take your time without feeling rushed or behind schedule. I was completely immersed in the program during the three months it lasted. As a result of my performance, I was offered the opportunity to participate in an additional three-month internship, which I am grateful for.

The Internship Opportunity

The Resagratia Data & Operations internship is another well-designed program that equips newly trained data analysts with the practical experience, concepts, and ideas needed to thrive in a data-related field. My time as a Data & Operations Associate was remarkable, thanks to the guidance of Tobi and Geovanni. During the internship, I learned to manage the operational side of things while working on projects and refining new skills in data science.

Conclusion

Looking back, my journey into data analytics has been deeply rewarding. What started as a quest to improve my trading skills, evolved into a passion for data analysis and issue resolution. From that first Excel course to my internship at Resagratia, every step has equipped me with skills that go beyond just the technical. I've learned the value of perseverance, curiosity, and embracing new challenges. As I continue this pursuit, I’m excited about the endless possibilities that data holds and look forward to applying these skills in even more impactful ways in the future.
